Combining 3D-Lidar and C-V2X technology to enhance safety in cities and tolling services on highways

At the 2025 ITS World Congress, Indra successfully demonstrated a unified approach to smart infrastructure, utilizing a single Roadside Unit (RSU) to power two distinct applications:

• V2X Toll: C-V2X technology for efficient, connected vehicle tolling.
• 3D LiDAR: Integrates with perception software, which analyzes all the cloud points, to detect pedestrians and obstacles in real-time.

Once pedestrians are detected by the 3D LiDAR, the perception software generates a C-V2X message from a Road Side Unit (RSU) to notify approaching vehicles of the event, such as a detected pedestrian, in the area. A test vehicle with Codha Wireless On-Board Unit was equipped with a human-machine interface (HMI) to display alerts. The same roadside infrastructure was also used to show other new innovations in tolling technology based on C-V2X.
